Hands-on Budgeting (Trip included)

This class gives older children an opportunity to learn about money, budgeting, and everyday household expenses through fun, hands-on activities they can relate to.

We’ll talk about real-life expenses such as gas, groceries, electricity, cable, household bills, and other everyday costs. Children will learn how families have to make choices about how to spend their money and how to plan ahead.

One of our activities will give each child a set amount of “pretend money” and a grocery budget. They will create a grocery list, guess the cost of each item, and figure out what meals they can make while staying within their budget. They’ll have to make decisions about needs, wants, prices, and how to stretch their money.

Then we’ll take the learning a step further with a trip to the grocery store! Children will find the items from their lists, compare their guesses to the actual prices, and see how close they were. We’ll discuss why prices may be different and how to make adjustments when something costs more or less than expected.

This class will help children practice math, critical thinking, decision-making, planning, comparison shopping, and financial responsibility in a fun and practical way.
